About us
He's What We're All About

Our striving and work is allowing God to work in us.
Love God, Grow in the Holy Spirit, and Serve Others
In 2025, our congregation spent intentional time asking a central question: “Who are we, and what are we called to do?” After a lot of prayer, listening, and thoughtful conversation, we came to see that everything we are and everything we are called to do can be summed up in three core commitments:
- Love God – First and foremost, we are called to worship God. This means that we don’t chase passing fads or get swept up in the culture-war fights of the moment, but instead we are focused on the eternal. Our worship, our decisions, and our life together flow from loving the One who first loved us.
- Grow in the Holy Spirit – God calls us to grow! While it is easy to settle into what is familiar, the Holy Spirit continually draws us into deeper faith and a fuller life. We trust that God is at work stretching us, renewing us, and forming us to reflect the love and character of Jesus.
- Serve Others – Jesus told us to love our neighbor, and we take that call seriously! From hosting local blood drives to feeding people at Serenity Inn, a Milwaukee-area drug rehabilitation ministry, to blessing children around the world with Operation Christmas Child, we seek to be serious about being a blessing.
If that is the kind of congregation that you think God is calling you to be part of, we would be honored to have you! We aren’t defined by worship style or cultural heritage, but by the grace of our God who loves us and calls us to something more than we are today!
Pastor Mike Matzek
Hello! I’m honored that you are taking the time to learn more about our leadership here at Shepherd of the Hills! I’ve been blessed to be part of this wonderful congregation since 2020. In that time, God has done wonderful things in and through this community.
Before I started serving here, I had spent twelve years at a wonderful congregation in southern California as their associate pastor. It was a great place and I learned a ton there, but my wife and I are Midwesterners at heart so we were so happy to get back to a place with four seasons.
I love that this congregation wants to get deeper in their relationship with God! I have a real passion for working through the Bible and helping people see their place in God’s story!
